The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting almost every area of the construction industry, and we have to work hard to stay on top of the various issues and comply with the new COVID-19 laws and mandates.
As you likely heard, last week, President Trump enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which will go into effect next week and remain in effect through December 31, 2020. Among other things, the FFCRA requires the vast majority of employers to provide eligible employees with (1) paid sick leave and/or (2) paid and unpaid family leave, under certain circumstances involving COVID-19 and the resulting school and childcare closures.
In response to all of this, we have created a COVID-19 packet for employers within the construction industry. This packet includes the following 5 documents:
Job site protection plan / COVID-19 infectious disease preparedness and response plan, plus a certificate of COVID-19 training
COVID-19 Toolbox talk in English, with a sign-up sheet
COVID-19 Toolbox talk in Spanish, with a sign-up sheet
Employment outline / resource regarding employment law issues with respect to COVID-19, particularly addressing the newly enacted leave laws
The employee rights notice poster that employers are required to post in the workplace under the new emergency paid leave law.
